I believe that racism is a massive issue today in our society. It may be a light hearted joke with a racist agenda or even a small comment about the person wearing a hajib but it is an issue that needs to be dealt with.

I think Australians say things without thinking that it will be offensive or rasist and they are never corrected about the comment that is said. Because they aren’t corrected they think it’s okay to continue to make racist remarks without being aware of the impact that it has.

We saw the backlash that occurred due to the Sydney siege and how people believed that all Muslims were terrorists due to a minority of a religious group causing terror. It took so one act of an individual to cause rasist comments and remarks. However the act of I’ll ride with you amended this and helped to over come the racism

i think that in order to overcome racism it needs to start with the individual and the way they behave. One person can start set the example that racism shouldn’t be tolerated.

Best Creative Blog

My best creative blog for this semester was this short letter. I feel like I was really able to express myself in this blog and be honest and was inspired when writing it.

“And then we must be free to kiss and part”. Write a short letter or poem that proclaims the kind of personal freedom that Ada Cambridge proposes in this line.

Dearest Love of My Life,

Lately I have been thinking a lot about our relationship and where we are at individually and as a couple. Lately You’ve become distant, the cause of this I am unsure about, however I have noticed this. You take hours to respond to my messages and when we are together, although you are physically there I feel as though you are a million worlds away. I wish you would open up to me and tell me what is on your mind rather than shutting me out.

Mean while I feel as though I am the only one who is trying to make this work. We have been in love for such a long time and I can honestly admit that I still love you dearly but there is something in the pit of my stomach that makes me doubt whether you still feel the same way.

I don’t want us to be together out of a habit or a routine. I want us to be together because we love each other and that we could never imagine being with anyone else.

This is why we need to part and live our lives without holding each other back. If we are meant to be together and I do believe we are we I’ll find our way back. But for now we must be free to kiss and part.

Love always

Hey Maryanne
I really agree with what you say in this letter to Remarque. He encapulates the struggles on men in war really well and sheds light on what war is really like rather than just sugar coating it.
Your structure is really good, however I would like to have seen more personal opinion!

Wow Monique this is amazingly written! I agree with how you said “the core message of the speech speaks so much truth about the importance of love for your fellow human being and the real desire for happiness in the world.” I completely agree with this.
Keep up the great work! 🙂

I love how you describe the keyboard in this. I particuarly like the line of “keyboard represent the social and cultural death of society through media.” I personally think to many people live their lives through their phones and technology making them miss out on what is out there so your submission for this week really stood out. Keep up the great work! 🙂

Hey Dana
I Found this really helpful in gaining more insight! The only thing I would suggest is to vary up the sources a little bit more!

Hey Kayla.
The way that you have reviewed the app is concise and well done making it easy to read and understand, however it still has enough detail to understand. I would have enhanced the blog by maybe adding some videos or audio of some kind to back up what your are saying. But apart from that well done!

Hi Shannon
I really like how you have captured the essence of Wilson. You have done a fantastic job in highlighting his unwillingness to stick to societies expectations.
The piece is well written and I like that you have quotes from the book! Well done!

Summative Entry

Do the interests, concerns and experiences of writers in the Twentieth Century still have relevance to human needs in the twenty-first century?

One of the main reasons as to why texts transcend time is due to the ability of the the authors work to relate to his audience. This is why we see authors like Shakespeare still have a significant impact on today as the themes that his work focuses on is universal to all people regardless of their age, gender or cultural background.

The authors of the Twentieth century and their work have relevance to the human needs of the current day people. The themes of love, death, relationships and the daily struggles of people that are present in the texts of the twentieth century are no different to the experiences of people in current society.

In All Quite on the Western Front, a twentieth century novel written by Erich Maria Remarque. The novel gives the reader an opportunity to view war in a revolutionary way, as Remarque highlights the horrors of war and the effects that it has on a person’s humanity as they attempt live a life surrounded by death. Although this is written in the twentieth century, the theme of war is still very current and dominate in today’s world. The question of a person’s humanity is always current as people are exposed to situations which are beyond their comfort zone and can question the person they are. Whist this is in the setting of war, the themes of friendship and humanity that arises in the book is still important to the people of the twenty first century.

The themes in George Orwell’s 1984 is another example of a twentieth century text that resonates with people of today. The variety of themes that are presented by Orwell have a similar impact today. One of the main themes of 1984 is technology. The text reveals that technology, which is generally perceived as working toward moral good, can also facilitate the most diabolical evil. Whilst the impact of technology has evolved and changed since the creation of 1984, technology is still a significant in creating good, but can also be used for destructive means. For example a twenty first century person uses technology for social aspects such as facebook and communicating with others. This is a good way for people to stay in contact, however at the same time it has the ability to be evil as people misuse social media for bulling and embarrassing others, ultimately transending the theme of technology today.

There can be many examples of how the interests, concerns and experiences of writers in the Twentieth Century still have relevance to human needs in the twenty-first century however I believed that these two were the most significant ones that I have studied this semester.

Week 11

Write a short narrative exploring, explaining the issues of cultural tension and language that you are faced with in your own personal situation. Maybe the writers we have studied will have released some new understanding? Maybe you might even find a poetic voice to express your new understanding. You could even use Marlene Philip’s poem as a model to follow.
